Tottenham Court Road changes to two way traffic on Saturday 20th April

If you live locally or have a business in the Tottenham Court Road area you should have received a letter from us with all the latest information on the switch.

Read on for more information on how the change to two way will affect you.

What is going to happen?

On Saturday 20th April we will open the new southbound lane on Tottenham Court Road. This will be open to buses and cyclists only 24 hours a day until spring 2020.

All buses which currently serve Gower Street and Bloomsbury Street will change to Tottenham Court Road.

We will doing some preparation work on the Friday but this will not be noisy work.

Look both ways words

LOOK BOTH WAYS

Please take care if you are crossing Tottenham Court Road. From Saturday remember to look both ways when crossing the road and please use the pedestrian crossings provided.

Driving around the area

No vehicles can use the new southbound lane except buses and cyclists (as well as emergency service vehicles on blue lights).

All vehicles can continue to drive on the northbound lane on Tottenham Court Road and use Gower Street southbound. Over the next year you should expect some congestion while we complete the project.

Cycling around the area

Tottenham Court Road southbound will be buses and cyclists only 24 hours a day from
Saturday 20th April until spring 2020 when the permanent restrictions come into place. Cyclists may find it easier to continue to use Gower Street southbound if coming from Hampstead Road.

Tottenham Court Road northbound will be busier while we are working on Gower Street. Cyclists may find it easier to use Quiet Route 1 which runs in part parallel to Tottenham Court Road and uses Montague Place, Mallet Street and Tavistock Place.
