Lambeth Schools Partnership - Newsletter #15

As many of you know, I am about to go on maternity leave to give birth to my triplets - my deliberate and intentional contribution towards pupil place planning in Lambeth. It also marks almost a year since beginning my role as Assistant Director of Education. 

Here, at Lambeth HQ, we get many questions and emails from prospective parents and members of the public asking about how our schools are tackling educational inequality, how representative our school leaders are and what work is happening in schools to tackle racism etc.  

Raising the Game (RTG) had their Year 5 Launch at Stockwell Primary School on Tuesday, 11th October 2022, where councillors and headteachers attended to show their support and commitment to the RTG agenda. 

Somos Lambeth had their Year 5 Launch at Lambeth Town Hall on Friday, 14th October 2022, where councillors and headteachers attended to show their support and commitment to the Somos Lambeth agenda.

Following the end of the pandemic and after a hiatus of a more than a year, new headteachers to Lambeth were once again invited for a formal introduction and induction to Lambeth at the Town Hall on Wednesday, 12th October 2022.  

Van Gogh Primary School sits directly opposite Eythorne Park, an open and calm expanse of greenland in the heart of Stockwell. Nadine Bernard, the headteacher, with the help of Dunraven Educational Trust, have done much to transform the school into a unique and rewarding place of learning.

The new ‘Working Well: exploring staff engagement and pupil wellbeing in English schools’ report, is the latest in the ‘Impact in Practice’ series, which provides insights from our national database on the factors supporting teacher and pupil wellbeing. 

The LSP have negotiated an extended 6-week trial of LbQ for our schools. Whether you have an established system in place or not, this really is a great opportunity at no cost and for a reasonable length of time to trial and fully explore a fantastic resource.

Join schools improving our environment in Lambeth through our new Future Fit Schools network. The network offers access to resources, peer-to-peer learning and action focused workshops.

Write Here Write Now is for Year 3 children identified by their schools as having low confidence and self-esteem, who are not achieving their full literacy potential.

Lambeth Council is seeking to appoint two elected Parent Governor Representatives to its Children’s Services Scrutiny Sub-Committee, for a four-year term of office ending in May 2026

Comments from governors and headteachers are invited on the proposed ‘standard’ school term and holiday dates for the academic years 2024/25, 2025/26 and 2026/27

This term they have been visiting children and young people in their new classes and we have been impressed with how well they have settled in, as well as introducing a new teacher.

Lambeth Council and its partners, supported by the Mayor of London, are working to build on the borough’s exciting ‘School Superzone’ pilot project to help tackle health inequalities in high need neighbourhoods.

The information pack is made up of a leaflet containing important information about the immediate Cost of Living support available to Lambeth Council residents, as well as a pack designed to support staff to signpost residents to services in order to help them with increases to the cost of living.

The Southeast London Learning Disability and Autism Big Health Week 2022 takes place between Monday 7th November until Friday, 11th November 2022

Free2B are an established LGBTQ+ youth service supporting young people through one to one and group provisions who have been commissioned by Lambeth ICS to undertake a compressive consultation to explore what LGBTQ+ young people would like in their borough. 

Big Ideas has been commissioned to hold a commemoration event on Wednesday, 9th November 2022 by the Canadian charity Maple Leaf Trust. Bringing together schools in the UK and Canada, young people will discover the story behind the poppy as a flower of remembrance during this very special event.

London Fire Brigade have developed a set of posters celebrating Black History Month 2022. 

ELEVATE have teamed up with Studio Voltaire to bring you an exclusive CPD session for education and youth workers in Lambeth. The CPD will equip you with practical, creative activities you can use in your setting to explore identity and heritage and wellbeing with your students.

Delivered by the Lambeth Early Years Team, this 4-day home-based childcare course will help you to become a childminder.

This is a package of three sessions providing networking opportunities and good practice sharing for mathematics subject leaders. It will include updates on leading mathematics in the changing education landscape with a focus on the latest research and theory in primary mathematics.

This Evening focuses on the essential information about schools and the education system. You will explore what governors do and, equally important, what they should not do, with tips on how to maintain a strategic focus and avoid getting involved in the day-to-day, operational running of the school.

This session will explain impending changes to the EWS way of working, outline early help offer and discuss data requirements in the hope of understanding the new attendance requirements of the Education White paper

The Lambeth School Services team will be running a series of weekly drop-in sessions on Tuesday afternoons for school staff users to better understand how to use the range of functions available to schools on the LSP website to purchase services, book training courses and access resources available from the site.
