Lambeth Schools Partnership - Newsletter #2

On Tuesday the 20^th July, we held an event with the Mayor of Lambeth to say goodbye to and celebrate the work of headteachers who have given so much of their career to raising achievement and aspirations for so many of our children and young people. 

The LSP would also like to say thank you and best wishes to Clare Dudman, Assistant Director Schools Quality Assurance and Partnerships who is leaving Lambeth after 6 years of excellent support to schools and settings across the borough.

The Raising the Game initiative concluded its third year with an inspiring and uplifting Aim High Roadshow event on the 7th July 2021. The virtual event was hosted by Right Honourable Stuart Lawrence and featured a guest panel of renowned individuals from the creative industries.

On Wednesday 7th July 2021, Aim High held its third virtual roadshow event for parents which focused on Cretaive Industries. We were honoured to welcome three highly successful professionals Natasha Preville, Samuel Ade, Ogo Anokwuru and Samantha Williams who answered questions and offered advice to parents. 

Hear from Ogo Akonwuru who has experienced both the corporate and entertainment sectors of the Creative Industries. This experience has enabled her to develop a wide range of skills both in front of and behind the camera. 

Hear from Samantha Williams who has 15 years of experience working in the media. Samantha also created BookLove, a travelling multicultural book carnival that travels around the country with a vast array of multicultural, anti-racist, bilingual, and inclusive books for adults and children.

Hear from Natasha Preville (Bsc, Msc, Dip.) who has over 25 years cross-sector experience, with over a decade in senior management within the screen industries; having worked on numerous award-winning campaigns for the BBC and Red Bee Media.

After its inaugural year, Somos Lambeth is showcasing some of the many activities that have taken place to support and improve the achievement of Portuguese-speakers in Lambeth schools. 

Also, 5 new schools are joining the initative next year. 

This year ACMM will be running a Summer Bootcamp for aspiring medical and dental students to best prepare them for the upcoming application process. This is a 3-week virtual bootcamp, 26th July - 13th August that will consist of a series of activities, debates, prizes, and tutor facilitated virtual learning sessions.

Moving Matter is offering two summer holidays camps:

This course is for schools Designated Safeguarding Leads and deputies and aims to provide them with the understanding of the main responsibilities and knowledge required to carry out the role. The course consists of two half days, on-line training

Facilitated by Rape Crisis South London / Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC). You will hear from specialist front-line practitioners about the social context and reality of young people’s experiences of sexual violence in and out of the school environment..

The ELSA programme is an initiative designed to build the capacity of schools to support the social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs of their pupils from their own resources. It also recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed.

This course will give participants a broad understanding of the different types of asbestos and the management protocols for each. The information provided will allow those responsible to manage the risks arising from asbestos materials within buildings.

In undertaking this CPD training, attendees will be able to effectively prevent the incidents of Legionella arising and comply with requirements for statutory monitoring.
