Hello, how are you?
This week we’re turning up the volume on men’s health to find out why it can be hard for men to talk and what we can all do to make things easier.
It's time to get out the 'Big Pan' because we're batch cooking! Whether you're an old hand or a beginner batch-cooker, you'll want to see these top tips.
We're getting to the bottom of alcohol’s impact on our bodies as part of Alcohol Awareness Week.
And finally, we’re getting outside, even if it is cold, dark and damp. Kick off your winter workouts with Kirklees Active Leisure who are now delivering online sessions. All sessions are free in November to those who download their app!
Let's talk about men's health
We can all find it hard to talk about our problems, but too often men feel like there isn’t a space where they can be open and share their worries. Take a look at Movember Conversations for tips to be more supportive when you’re having a chat. Need help yourself? Contact Platform One, a local men’s mental health charity. Read more about Men’s mental health on Bupa.
Master batch cooking
Not sure what to do with time at home? Why not cook up a storm in the kitchen, a storm of delicious meals for weeks to come! Check out Batch Cooking for Beginners on BBC Good Food for a simple guide to help you master the art of batch cooking. It’s not just main meals, preparing healthy and scrumptious snacks in advance can help you to manage cravings and avoid energy slumps in the day.
What do you know about alcohol?
This week has been Alcohol Awareness Week and the theme is mental health. Do you enjoy a cool beer or a fancy cocktail from time to time? There’s nothing wrong with that, but it's important to understand how alcohol affects our mental health, and our body. If you want help cutting down on the amount you drink, get in touch with the Wellness Service who offer 1:1 support for people in Kirklees.
How to stay active in cold weather
So the weather isn't great, but if we can just get out there, we might even enjoy ourselves... exercise helps us to feel happier, healthier, and more motivated. Check out some top tips for exercising outdoors even when it’s cold and rainy. There are so many different ways to keep fit! After reading about the NHS Fitness Studio, one of our readers wrote in to say they are planning a belly dancing competition with their work colleagues, what a fab idea!
