Welcome to our APC: a step-change in working together, and working differently
A message from Professor Clive Kay, Chief Executive of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Professor Ian Abbs, Chief Executive of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust; and Ben Travis, Chief Executive of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to write this introduction to the first of our new e-bulletins about the work taking place across the South East London Acute Provider Collaborative (SEL APC).
The SEL APC may be a relatively new name and concept to some of you - but it is born out of a long history of joint-working between Guy's and St Thomas', King's and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trusts.
We are focused on delivering an ambitious and far-reaching programme for elective and diagnostic recovery. In doing so, we play an instrumental role in ensuring:
- Equitable access to services for all patients. It should not matter where you live or which hospital you are referred to
- All services are safe, high quality and sustainable
- Best use of our resources and taking advantage of economics of scale
- Risks are managed and benefits shared across our system
The pandemic accelerated the importance of closer collaboration between Trusts, with the existing APC structures ensuring we coped with unprecedented numbers of COVID-19 positive patients, as well as coordinating our elective recovery efforts across the three Trusts.
The SEL APC has developed significantly in recent months, and we now have an even stronger infrastructure and governance model in place. This includes a new Committee in Common of the three Trust Boards, which sets our overarching goals and vision.
Our APC also reports to the leadership group of the South East London Integrated Care System (ICS). This recognises the key role that our collaborative is playing in supporting the ICS and all its partners to make the greatest possible contribution to the health and wellbeing of people living in our six boroughs.
This inaugural e-bulletin charts our progress in seeing and treating patients more effectively, and in ever-increasing numbers; it also brings to life examples of how we are continually pushing new boundaries in developing ways of working together. It is just one way we are raising our profile in coming months – a web presence and social media launch are among our next steps.
As well as sharing our success stories, we hope it will also unleash more ideas for blending integration and innovation across South East London; and encourage more people to join our journey and contribute to our future success in a place where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts – enabling us all to deliver better health and care services for local people.
Best wishes,
Clive, Ian and Ben
