Keep on protecting each other, take part in Black History Month and Recycle Week

Islington Council
We must keep on protecting each other. Hands, face, space. Stay alert, control the virus, save lives.

Help stop the spread of Covid-19

Locally, as well as nationally, cases of Covid-19 are rising. As a council, we’re continuing to share key public health advice on how to minimise your risk of catching or spreading the disease. We welcome you sharing this with your friends and family too. Much of the advice is unchanged:

  • HANDS - Wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds.
  • FACE - Wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet.
  • SPACE - Stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings or increasing ventilation indoors).

If you have Covid-19 symptoms, you should get a test. The main symptoms of coronavirus are a high temperature, a new, continuous cough and a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. Most people with coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms.

If you have Covid-19 symptoms, you should immediately start to self-isolate while you apply for a test. We all need to play our part to protect the NHS Test and Trace service for those who really need it.

NHS Test and Trace

It is now a requirement for certain businesses to have a system to collect NHS Test and Trace data, and keep this for 21 days. If you are visiting local businesses, particularly cafes, restaurants and pubs, please be prepared to provide your contact details.

If you're visiting any of our buildings, all staff, customers and visitors will also be asked to leave their contact details. People can leave their details by scanning a QR code or going direct to an online form. Anyone who cannot do it digitally for any reason can complete a written form at reception (or available from premises managers on sites with no public-facing area).

If you run a local business, sign up to our Business Support bulletin for useful news and information.

Celebrate Recycle Week

For this year’s Recycle Week 2020 (21-27 September) we’re celebrating the hard work of residents and our recycling crews to keep on recycling despite the challenges of Covid-19.

Throughout everything, our crews have been out and about collecting the recycling and you - our residents - have kept doing your bit for the environment. A huge thanks for all your hard work.

Let’s make a special effort together during Recycle Week and do everything we can to recycle as much as possible, working together.

ANTI IDLING ACTION

Call for drivers to turn engines off

It’s more important than ever that we do everything we can to keep our air clean, for everyone’s health, especially people with breathing difficulties. The #EnginesOff campaign, run by the Idling Action Project, asks residents, and businesses, to pledge that drivers won’t leave engines on when stationary in order to reduce air pollution, especially when near to schools. Evidence suggests that air pollution is linked to poor recovery and higher infection rates of Covid-19, due to damage caused to the lungs.

You can do your bit to help the #EnginesOff Campaign by signing the pledge online.
