No Knife Shop launched in Islington
In a UK first, Islington Council has teamed up with the Ben Kinsella Trust and the Metropolitan Police to launch the 'No Knife Shop' scheme. ‘No Knife Shop’ is an attempt to change retailers from thinking “how to sell knives safely” to “why sell them at all?”, unless it is a core part of their business.
Also, a memorial Christmas tree for victims of knife crime can be seen outside Islington Town Hall. The memorial tree is supported by the council and organised by Michelle McPhillips, whose son Jonathon “JJ” McPhillips tragically died in 2017 after he was stabbed.
If you're worried about a young person you know becoming involved in knife crime, please read our advice and guidance here.

Islington Council is consulting on plans to boost air quality and green space by reconnecting the north and south sections of Highbury Fields and closing part of Highbury Crescent to motor traffic.
In line with the council’s commitment to make walking and cycling more attractive to residents and visitors and to rebalance Islington’s roads in favour of walking and cycling, the council proposes to close the section of Highbury Crescent in the park permanently.
The consultation will close 7 February 2020.

Rough sleeping is awful at any time of the year, but more so during the winter months. If you want to help make a real difference to someone rough sleeping this winter, please consider donating to Islington Giving. Every penny raised will go to people sleeping rough in Islington by way of a grant tailored towards their individual needs and aspirations. Here are also some other ways you can help:
- If you are concerned about someone rough sleeping, contact Streetlink: call 0300 500 0914 or visit www.streetlink.org
- Talk to the person. Being kind and interested can be invaluable
- Buy a copy of The Big Issue magazine from a registered vendor
- Volunteer your time to one of our local charities who support homelessness people.

Three new rapid chargers have been installed in Islington. The new chargers at Brewery Road, Golden Lane and Meredith Street use 100% renewable energy and can take as little as 30 minutes to recharge.
As part of our zero carbon neutral plans, 400 more electric vehicle charging points are to be installed before 2022 to help residents looking to make the switch to electric vehicles.
