Highbury Corner switches to two-way traffic

Last week, traffic switched to two-way at Highbury Corner. The changes are designed to make walking and cycling in the area safer and more convenient as Highbury Corner is transformed in a major project from Transport for London and Islington Council. Once the work is complete in the autumn, the area will have a new public space, segregated cycle lanes and new crossings.

Please take care while pedestrians and traffic get used to the new system. More information can be found on the TfL website below.

All outside entertainment at Three Corners is now powered solely through solar energy after volunteers installed the panels on the playground's summer house.

Old Street roundabout improvements

From 7 May 2019 the pedestrian subway on Cowper Street (subway 2) will close so that work can begin on the south-eastern arm of the roundabout to build the new station entrance.  This is part of a major scheme, from TfL, Islington and Hackney councils to remove Old Street roundabout and make the area more pedestrian and cycle friendly.

The traffic switch will take place over the late May bank holiday weekend. Road closures will be in place on City Road south and Old Street west. Following this, the south-eastern arm of the roundabout will be closed off and two-way traffic will operate.
