HSL’s John Cocker awarded with prestigious Herbert E Stokinger award

As the ACGIH 2017 Herbert E Stokinger award winner, John Cocker, of HSL’s biological monitoring team, gave the Stokinger lecture to an audience of around 1400 people.

John Cocker, together with his colleague Kate Jones, has recently published an article ‘Biological Monitoring without Limits’ in the Annals of Work Exposures and Health.  HSL run a biological monitoring service to assist employers and employees recognise where exposure to chemicals in the workplace may highlight a need to assess control measures and implement change.

A collection of Experimental Data for Aerosol Monitoring Cyclones – HSL publication

HSL’s Peter Stacey and Andrew Thorpe worked across teams to deliver a publication, featuring in Aerosol Science and Technology, focussing on cyclone performance and behaviour. Cyclones have a very wide range of uses in aerosol monitoring and gas cleaning applications; consequently many investigators have sought to develop models to describe cyclone performance.

This article presents a large, previously unpublished experimental dataset, characterizing the performance of small, short-coned, circular-inlet cyclones having a wide range of geometries. The dataset has been collected over a period of 25 years and is included as online supplementary information (SI) to this article.  Follow this link to view the full article.

Lungs Summit

Breathing in certain dusts, gases, fumes and vapours in the workplace can cause serious, long-term lung damage.

Find out what HSE is doing about it, what science and evidence can tell us and what you can do about it by attending our Workplace Healthy Lungs Summit 2017. The Summit will provide you with the opportunity to hear directly from HSE and other industry stakeholders about how you can tackle workplace lung disease.

Book your place at the Workplace Healthy Lungs Summit 2017.
