New miniature respirable sampler

HSL develops new miniature respirable sampler

Peter Stacey, from the Analytical Chemistry team, HSL, led a team of scientists in the development a miniature sampler to collect and measure particulate concentrations inside filtering face piece type masks.  The research has been recently published demonstrating the performance of the sampler and how safe it is to use. The miniature sampler uses the same fittings used for fit testing of respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and could also be used for environmental sampling of ambient particulate.  This project was a collaborative exercise involving colleagues from the Exposure Assessment Branch at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the United States.
