Quarries workforce involvement inspections

In the course of regulatory interventions and in line with the Quarries Sector Strategy, HSE will be assessing compliance with the Quarries Regulations 1999, Regulation 40 (workforce involvement). Quarry Operators are advised to check their systems and procedures against the legal minimum requirement in the legislation.

Aspects to be particularly aware of include; the requirement to 'make and maintain' arrangements for effective cooperation in h&s matters (Reg 40(1)); quarry workers to be informed of their rights under the legislation (Regs 40(2), (3), (4), (5), (6) and (8)); those workers involved in h&s matters to have received relevant training; is there a site health and safety committee or some other equally effective arrangement?; do the workforce carry out inspections (not the same as those required under Reg12)?; how do management deal with h&s challenges brought about by the workforce?; are members of the workforce involved in the investigation of reportable (under RIDDOR) incidents?
