The run up to Christmas was a busy time for HSE's occupational hygiene experts.


In November, HSE Microbiologist Alan Beswick presented his recent work related to surgical smoke measurement and control at the Institute of Safety in Technology and Research 2018 LEV Autumn Symposia.


He also presented on automated decontamination devices used within the healthcare setting at the Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) annual conference at the ACC in Liverpool.

Chris Keen

Always keen to talk

In December, Chris Keen, HSE Occupational Hygiene specialist and chair of the BOHS Breathe Freely in Construction steering group hosted a campaign roadshow with a number of interesting sessions including how you can make changes to reduce levels of dust and breathable contamination in the industry.


Chris’ team can offer Complete Worker Health Solutions to help you prioritise and deliver effective and sustainable health risk management. There are also training options available.




Upcoming Meeting


The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Interdepartmental Group on Hazards and Risks of Chemicals (IGHRC) are running a meeting on “Biomonitoring – human and environmental perspectives” on 22 January 2019 in London.


Kate Jones, HSE Biological Monitoring expert, will be presenting work on reducing exposure to isocyanates in the motor vehicle repair industry.


Other examples of HSE’s work on biological monitoring will feature in the poster presentations.
