British Science Week 2023

British Science Week is an annual 10-day celebration of science taking place from 10th - 19th March. The occasion can encourage schools and communities to organise events or activities that promote STEM education. This year's theme is 'connections', which is a great time to highlight how the physical connections that we make every day are an essential aspect of human interaction but can cause infectious agents to spread globally if correct hygiene practices are not followed.

Check out the British Science Week page on the e-Bug website for all of the resources that you need to plan an engaging day of science education centred around connections! Our hand hygiene lesson plan includes information and posters on how to break the chain of infection, and for older students, our test tube experiment demonstrates how easily STIs can be transmitted.

World Hand Hygiene Day

Be prepared for World Hand Hygiene Day on Friday 5th May with e-Bug's hand shaking experiment! Students will be able to see the millions of microbes that stick to our hands when contaminated via contact with high traffic surfaces and person-to-person contact. They will see how washing hands with soap and water removes any potentially microbes to prevent the spread to others.

e-Bug Webinar: Embedding Hygiene Messages for a Healthier School

In November 2022, the e-Bug programme held a live webinar to explore how e-Bug resource can be used to embed hygiene messages within the classroom, with a particular focus on hand hygiene.

We also discussed what is meant by a ‘healthy school’ and heard from Hayley Hancock, a primary school teacher in Gloucestershire, who shared her experiences of using e-Bug resources and how they have supported the learning and hygiene behaviours of her pupils.

ASE Conference 2023

The e-Bug team attended the Association for Science Education (ASE) conference in Sheffield Hallam University from 5th – 7th January. The event allowed us to showcase our resources and interactive experiments to science educators and technicians, including the Yeast Races activity shown here (left). We are proud to hold the ASE green tick, accrediting the scientific content within our resources.
