Supporting local businesses to be Covid-19 Secure

Hounslow Council, working in partnership with Safer Business Hounslow and Hounslow Chamber of Commerce have introduced new business support advisors to help ensure that businesses are 'Covid-19 Secure' as part of the #ShopSafeShopLocal campaign. 

The campaign is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund to support the safe reopening of high streets and other commercial areas in England. Read more here

Love your local arches campaign to support small businesses

The public is being encouraged to use their local arch businesses in August as part of a #loveyourlocalarches campaign to help those small businesses hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign will run throughout August, culminating in an Arch Day on 29 August 2020. It aims to increase the visibility of railway arch businesses within their communities and increase footfall to help thousands of small companies to recover from the pandemic and its impacts.  Read more here

£50 million for legal aid sector

Up to £51 million will go to the legal aid sector to better reflect the vital work criminal advocates and solicitors do, under government reforms announced (21 August 2020).

  • new payments better reflect the amount of work that goes into preparing cases for trial
  • ministers announce independent review to look at the sustainability of the legal aid market
  • part of ongoing work to create a fair and proportionate legal aid system for all.

Highways England : £27 billion roads investment to support 64,000 jobs

Highways England has unveiled the details of plans for £27.4 billion investment in the strategic road network across the country.

Highways England will deliver £14 billion of projects improving the quality, capacity and safety of the motorways and major A roads that have helped keep the country going during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Almost £11 billion will go into improving every day journeys by repairing and replacing parts of the network, largely built in the 1960s and 70s.

In a boost to the nation’s recovery, Highways England said its plans would help support 64,000 construction industry jobs. Read more here
