Travelling abroad this summer

travelling abroad

International travel arrangements, during the coronavirus pandemic, are complex and subject to change. The Government’s advice continues to be that people should not travel abroad unless it is essential. Quarantine arrangements apply to many destinations, unless the country is on the Government’s exempt list. However, as we saw over the weekend in Spain, the situation can change overnight and countries that you could travel to without needing to quarantine can be removed from the exempt list with little or no notice.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office now advises against all non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands. Travellers must also isolate for 14 days on arrival into the UK.

If you are planning to travel abroad, please ensure you are aware of any restrictions that might be imposed both for your arrival in that country and on your return to the UK. If you are planning to book or go abroad, ensure you have a suitable plan in place before travelling.

We advise that you continue to check the Government's website and with your travel provider before travelling.

Last chance to have your say and tell us how you are being affected by the pandemic

Residents survey

We know this is an extremely challenging time for our residents and that the coronavirus pandemic has affected many aspects of your day to day life.

We want to better understand how your life has been affected, how you are feeling now, what support services you are accessing and how Council services can help support your recovery over the coming months.

Please also share your opinions on how the Council has responded and what we could do better.

This survey is completely anonymous and you don’t have to answer every question. Your views are really important in helping us understand the issues and will inform and influence what we do.

Complete the survey here before it closes on Friday 31 July.

Keep everyone safe this summer

Protect others

With lockdown restrictions lifting and parks, shops, restaurants, pubs and other businesses reopening their doors, again here are some handy tips on how to keep yourself and others safe this summer.

  • Make sure you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, when you get to work or arrive home, after you blow your nose, cough or sneeze and before you eat or handle food.
  • It is now mandatory to wear a face covering, covering your nose and mouth, when using public transport or while shopping, unless exempt. Advice on how to wear and make a face mask can be found on the Government's website.
  • Keep a safe distance from others, up to two metres if possible.
  • If you are feeling unwell, stay at home. If you believe you have coronavirus symptoms, get tested now using the range of local testing options
  • If you have been shielding and still require support the Councils Community Hub and voluntary organisations are still here to help our most vulnerable residents, with shopping and medication assistance.

Got coronavirus symptoms? Get tested now

test and trace

There is a range of local testing options available to you, including a mobile testing site with a mixture of walk in and drive-through appointments available on Thursday 30 July at the private car park on Hanworth Road, TW3 3TY. For more information, please click here.

NHS Test and Trace is an essential part of the Government’s response to stopping the spread of coronavirus and to save lives. Get tested and do your bit to protect your friends and family.

Find out where you can Eat Out to Help Out

Help out Eat out launch

More than 53,000 outlets across the UK have so far signed up to the UK Government’s Eat Out to Help Out Scheme which begins 3 August.

As Eat Out to Help Out stickers and posters start to appear in the windows of restaurants, cafes, bars and other establishments, customers who want to take advantage of the scheme are advised to look out for the logo.

The logo means diners that eat-in will benefit from a 50 per cent discount, up to a maximum of £10 per person, on food and non-alcoholic drinks, any Monday to Wednesday in August – and no voucher is required. Diners can take advantage of the offer as many times as they like during the month.

To find out which restaurants are participating in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme in Hounslow you can use the Government's online restaurant finder. Simply enter your postcode, or one near to where you want to eat out, to get a list of participating outlets within a five-mile radius.

New campaign launched to tackle littering throughout UK parks

Love Parks litter campaign

Hounslow Council is launching a new campaign over the summer months as a result of the increases in littering and anti-social behaviour that have been seen since lockdown eased. The national campaign, developed by Keep Britain Tidy, under the umbrella of ‘Love Parks’, features images of real parks staff and park users with quotes that talk about how anti-social behaviour makes them feel, urging visitors to ‘be kind’ to their park.

Councils across the UK have reported clearing up, on average, an extra 57 tonnes of additional waste from their parks.

Litter ruins the environment and puts added pressure on Hounslow’s Greenspace 360 crews who have been working in challenging conditions over the past few months. Furthermore, littered materials create a genuine hazard for wild animals, who can become injured or entangled by dumped items.

See full details here.

Hounslow leisure centres plan a phased return

Heston pools and fitness

Hounslow leisure centres, operated by Fusion Leisure, are planning a phased return following the guidance from the Government that indoor gyms, leisure centres and swimming pools could reopen from 25 July.

The council is working with Fusion to establish plans to ensure the strict new criteria can be met and the facilities can reopen safely, enabling our residents and customers to enjoy them once again and include them in their fitness and exercise plans.

The priority is that all our residents, customers and staff are protected from the virus, and customers can have full confidence that the centres are entirely safe to use. This means that the centres will not reopen from the 25 July, and when they do reopen, it is likely to be in a phased way. Read more here.
