This month we are highlighting the importance of having regular health checks to keep your health and wellbeing on track. 

Whether you want to get checked to help with weight loss, eating well or becoming more active, we can offer FREE one-to-one advice, guidance and support to make sustainable lifestyle changes.

NHS Health Check

This check-up is for adults in England between the ages of 40 to 74* it's designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one or more of these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.

Wellbeing MOT's

Following the theme this year for Men’s Health Week, ‘Time For Your M.O.T’, we are taking bookings for men within the Horsham District* to have a Wellbeing MOT.

Step onto our body composition scales to find out your fat percentage  muscle mass, bone mass, visceral fat, hydration levels and more!

Talk through your results, confidentially, with a Wellbeing Advisor and decide on any steps you might want to take to help improve your health and lifestyle.

Well-balanced for Wellbeing

Falls Prevention courses are now starting in Steyning and Horsham and will continue to run in Pulborough! 

Over a series of 24 sessions comprising low-impact exercises, this course aims to keep you feeling strong and steady on your feet with the added bonus of meeting like-minded people so you get to enjoy the social side of things too.

If you or someone you know would benefit from improving their strength, balance and confidence in a friendly and supportive environment, you can self refer to 'Active House Solutions' or if you have any other questions please contact the Hub on 01403 215111.

Emotional Eating  Workshop

Our Emotional Eating and Unhealthy Behaviours workshop focuses on identifying the reasons for emotional eating, triggers and barriers, and what steps you can put in place to overcome these challenges.

Let's Talk About Sleep

This short talk will look at factors affecting sleep and highlight the reasons why we are finding it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. We will show you how to work out your best sleep time and figure out what type of sleeper you are and how many hours you really need.

'Coming together to make caring Visible, Valued and Supported'

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contributions they make to families and our local community. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities identify as carers and access much-needed support.

World Blood Donor Day

14 June

'Give blood and keep the World beating'

Raising awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

Highlighting the importance of a blood service that gives patients access to safe blood and blood products in sufficient quantity.

World Blood Donor Day changes each year in recognition of the selfless individuals who donate their blood for people unknown to them.

The British Nutrition Foundation’s Healthy Eating Week is an annual event that highlights what we can all do to have healthier lifestyles.

The message for the Week this year is, 'Eat well for you and the planet' and each day of the Week will have a different theme. Find out more for FREE information, activity ideas and resources to help you have a healthier and more sustainable diet.

Men's Health Week

13-19 June

'Time for your M.O.T.'

Men's Health Week raises awareness of the health issues that affect men. Focusing on getting men to become more aware of health problems they may have or could develop and gain the courage to do something about it.  

Everybody's mental health has been challenged by the lockdowns and insecurities in the last two years but even before the pandemic, men's mental health was a cause for concern. Let's raise awareness of the low number of men who seek treatment for depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges, it could save their life.

Top tips to get your five-a-day

Tip no 5 - Check nutrition information on labels and look out for the 5-a-day logo. Vegetables in convenience foods such as ready-meals, pasta sauces and takeaway's can contribute to your five-a-day. But many of these foods may be high in added salt, sugar or fat. Read the nutrition information to see whether you can get your five-a day, in a healthier way.

Dr. Bike ‘Learn to Fix’ 

FREE Essential Bike Maintenance classes in Horsham town.

Learn the skills to deal with minor mechanical hiccups and feel confident getting around Horsham by bike. Classes last 3-hours including a 20 minute break and all tools and materials are provided - just bring your bike!

Community Fridge

The Horsham Community Fridge offer excess food from local businesses, supermarkets and allotments, that would otherwise be wasted, and is available to everyone in the Community. Come along and choose five items to save it going to landfill!
