Autumn wellbeing
Now we are in September, the end of summer is not the end of looking after our health and wellbeing! With a positive mindset we can prolong our wellness for the Autumn months.
We've got new Get Active courses starting to hep you ease into the darker days and changing weather, from learning to run to improving your stamina by walking, why not try something new and give them a go!
Don't forget to come in to the Wellbeing Centre for help and advice on your overall wellbeing.
Learn To Run
A step-by-step course for beginners aiming to help you go from walking to jogging over a 10 week period.
There are absolutely no expectations in terms of reaching a particular distance or running for a set time by the end of the course, we encourage everyone to go at their own pace.
Sessions comprise of a warm up, main activity and a cool down and stretch to finish. Rest assured it won't just be running loops around the park; we recognise variety is important when trying to maintain interest and motivation (you might even forget you are exercising!) so each week the main activity will be different.
Next available courses:
Monday 13 September 6.00pm at Steyning Athletics Club
Tuesday 14 September 6.00pm at Horsham Park

Walk-Fit
If you think running might be too much for you, or you have injuries or joint problems that preclude running, how about trying Walk-fit - a ten week graded exercise programme to improve aerobic fitness, stamina and strength.
This friendly group of complete beginners will be taken through their paces by a trained run leader, gradually increasing both distance of walking and pace. This won’t be a gentle ramble - it will aim to get you breathing hard and your heart pumping, but it will be lots of fun!
Walking routes will be both around quiet roads and on local tracks - a good pair of trainers is all you need!
Next available course:
Tuesday 14 September 2021 6.00pm at Steyning Athletics Club

Build your confidence in a friendly and supportive environment, with a series of low impact exercises to keep you strong and steady on your feet.

Community Link
Community Link are a small team of friendly advisors helping vulnerable residents across the district to live independently with the use of telecare/telehealth devices. These aids enable someone to call for help if required and can also be considered an 'aid' for daily living.
If you think they may be able to help you, a family member, friend, or someone you support, the Community Link team will be at the Wellbeing Centre the first of every month between 10am and 1pm
Drop-in session: Thursday 9 September from 10am-1pm.

World Suicide Prevention Day
10 September
Every year the Samaritans raise awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day, by helping to create a world where fewer people die by suicide.
The latest statistics showed that in 2018, in the UK and Republic of Ireland, more than 6,800 people died by suicide. Let's make suicide preventable, not inevitable.
If you're worried for yourself or someone else and would like some helpful information, advice and support, contact The Samaritans of Horsham and Crawley.
