West Sussex County Council is encouraging
residents to take part in Stoptober, the 28-day stop smoking challenge, which
begins on 1 October 2018.
If you’re one of the 6 out of 10
smokers that want to quit, but don’t want to do it alone, Stoptober is the perfect
time. Last year 400,000 smokers in England quit successfully – this could be
your year to join them.
The most effective method of
quitting is to receive support, either from your GP or from a local
participating pharmacy. With the right support, you are four times more likely
to quit as medical professionals can provide you with a combination of quit
methods, including face-to-face advice or nicotine replacement therapies
(such as patches, inhalers or lozenges). Whichever method suits you best.
To find a stop smoking
service near you visit the West
Sussex Wellbeing website.
If you would like to make a difference this October, why
not get involved and sign up to Heart UK's ‘Great Cholesterol Challenge’. Staying physically fit and adopting a healthy lifestyle not only makes you feel
good, but can help to keep cholesterol levels at bay. You can walk, run, cycle,
row or even swim 100 miles in October and raise funds for HEART UK, or maybe
just take it on as a challenge for yourself.
HEART UK provides support,
guidance and educational for those with concerns about their cholesterol. For further details visit their website: www.heartuk.org.uk.
If you have been advised by your GP that you have high cholesterol
levels and need dietary or activity support then give us a call 01403
215111 to learn more about our group and 1-1 services.

The virus that causes flu changes every year, as does the vaccine, which is why it is important that those at risk protect themselves and get the vaccine. Flu can be more severe in certain groups such as:
- anyone aged 65 and over
- the very young
- pregnant women
- children and adults with underlying health conditions – particular long-term respiratory or heart disease
- children and adults with weakened immune systems.
For more information on who should have the free flu jab, see The Flu Vaccination booklet or visit the NHS website.
