David Lammy was appointed Lord Chancellor, Secretary of State for Justice and Deputy Prime Minister on 5 September 2025.
He was previously Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs between July 2024 and September 2025.
Baroness Levitt KC and Jake Richards have also joined the ministerial team at the Ministry of Justice as Parliamentary Under-Secretaries of State.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has released the latest in a series of HMCTS Reform Digital Services Evaluation publications. Services covered in this publication include Damages, Divorce, Family Public Law, Online Civil Money Claims and Probate.
The reports show that digital services have improved access to justice for the public and that 78% of public users are satisfied across the services. In most areas, digitisation has improved case progression speed.

This Saturday, 13 September 2025, you can go behind the scenes at two historic courts. Explore Lewes Combined Court, 10am to 2:30pm and Northampton Magistrates' Courts 10am to 4pm with exclusive guided tours. Participate in mock, tour inside court cells and speak with the judges, barristers and court staff who bring justice to life every day.
You can also experience London's most iconic courthouse when the Royal Courts of Justice open its doors on Saturday 20 September 2025 from 10am to 4pm. Try on a judge's robes, witness courtroom drama in mock trials, and discover the stories within these historic walls.

We welcomed a Ukrainian delegation this week as part of a Ministry of Justice visit to examine England and Wales' jury trial system. The group included senior members of Ukraine's Parliamentary Law Enforcement Committee, policy specialists and judges, who met with ministers, policy teams and HMCTS colleagues.
The visit took place across 102 Petty France and St Albans Crown Court, covering legal procedures and frameworks, operational practices and ongoing reforms to give delegates a comprehensive understanding of our jury system.
