This week we published our latest blog post highlighting our partnership with media representatives which has helped bring about an important change that will strengthen open justice. The blog details the collaborative work which supported amendments to the Criminal Procedure Rules which will come into effect in October 2025.
The changes will ensure media organisations receive proper notification when discretionary reporting restrictions are proposed, addressing a long-standing concern about transparency in criminal courts.

This week, Lord Timpson visited the Intensive Supervision Court (ISC), at Bristol Crown Court. The court uses a holistic, multi-agency approach to tackle the root causes of crime such as alcohol and drug abuse for offenders, as an alternative to custody and improving offender outcomes.
Lord Timpson met judges and operational colleagues at the court and observed a hearing. Intensive Supervision Courts - which are planned to expand are one of the recommended actions from the Independent Sentencing Review published on 22 May 2025.

From 28 July 2025 the Online Civil Money Claims service will be mandated for legal representatives issuing and responding to eligible claims made under Practice Direction 51R. Claims issued and responses/documents will no longer be accepted on paper and they will be returned to the sender.
From this date, small road traffic accident money claims will also be automatically referred to mediation as part of a one-year pilot. This pilot applies to claims for a fixed sum of money and where there is no personal injury.
