A weekly round-up of the latest news and information about courts and tribunals

The first part of an Independent Review of the Criminal Courts chaired by Sir Brian Leveson has been published. The Lord Chancellor commissioned this major review in December 2024. It will have important implications for everyone working in the criminal justice system.
The first part of the review focuses on longer term options for criminal court reforms. The second part will focus on the efficiency and timeliness of processes and will be published later this year.
We will continue to work together with colleagues across the Ministry of Justice and stand ready to implement change to deliver justice more swiftly and effectively.

Further to the video we shared in last week’s edition, our latest blog post focuses on this year's Magistrates' Mock Trial Competition, in which over 3,000 students from 195 schools participated. The programme allows 12-14 year olds to take on courtroom roles including lawyers, witnesses and magistrates in real court settings.
HMCTS provides funding and venues as part of its outreach programme to make legal careers accessible to young people.
