We've launched a six-week public consultation on a proposal to permanently close Lancaster Crown Court. The court, located in a Grade I listed 12th century castle, hasn't held hearings since 2019 due to accessibility issues and a lack of modern facilities.
Under this proposal, criminal cases would continue at Preston Crown Court, while Lancaster Courthouse would remain available for civil hearings.
Anyone with an interest or views on the matter can have their say via GOV.UK.

It’s already been a year since mediation became a requirement in small claims cases less than £10,000.
In the last 12 months, we have conducted 43,000 mediations and settled 16,000 cases following an appointment, saving parties the time and cost of going to court.
