Last month, around 350 students from 24 schools across the UK travelled to the Royal Courts of Justice in London for the national final of this year’s Bar Mock Trial Competition, led by Young Citizens. We’ve supported these events for more than a decade, with colleagues volunteering their time to help out on the day and our buildings being used as venues.
The competition is a legal education programme in which state school pupils compete in mock criminal trials. Over 3,000 students from 214 schools took part in this year’s competition.
We also sponsor Young Citizens to deliver the annual Magistrates' Court Mock Trial Competition which is currently underway. Across both competitions over 5,000 students from 225 schools have taken part.

Our colleagues worked with Northumbria Police to support their Trainee Detective Programme, welcoming students to Bedlington and Sunderland Magistrates’ Courts for a powerful look into the justice system.
Using virtual reality tech and expert insight, the students experienced how our courts work and how criminal offences are dealt with, complete with an awards ceremony recognising their efforts.
