From Monday 20 January 2025, prison staff will no longer need to seek consent to intermittently observe video call participants from a screen in the control room.
This is no different to when an officer observes a physical meeting – it will be a visual check only and officers cannot hear participants.
If you or your client refuse to be observed from the control room, the call can still go ahead, with staff monitoring the call through physical patrols of the video area.
