This week Westminster Magistrates’ Court hosted an anti-knife crime event for two schools in areas of London most affected by knife crime. Schoolchildren aged between 14 and 16 years came together to learn about the dangers and consequences of carrying or using a knife.
Heidi Alexander MP, Minister of State for Courts and Legal Services joined the pupils and expressed her support for the event. Representatives of the judiciary, legal profession and Met Police joined charities including Steel Warriors and Street Doctors to provide real-world perspectives on how knife crime can harm lives and communities.

Our Head of Insight joined delegates from across the world to explore how to build trust through people-centred justice. Luc Altmann joined a panel to discuss latest research developments at an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) conference in Canada.
OECD published his policy paper setting out HMCTS’ experience in measuring and assessing access to justice. The paper provides a practical, cost-effective guide to developing an evidence-based approach. It includes a framework which other countries can adopt and use to identify barriers to access, to better understand their scope, nature and underlying causes.

In response to the closure of Blackpool County Court, to increase our capacity for civil and family work in Lancashire, we have opened two further courtrooms at Fleetwood.
The new rooms will sit alongside the existing two courtrooms, which opened during the pandemic as a temporary Nightingale court. This increased capacity will mean that, pending the opening of the new court in Blackpool, people from the Blackpool area will have less distance to travel for hearings.
