HMCTS Weekly Operational Update - Week commencing Monday 18 July 2022

HMCTS weekly operational update

HMCTS operational summary for week commencing Monday 18 July 2022

Next week’s update will be issued on Friday 22 July 2022.

  • Updated: Our buildings will remain open on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July. The Met Office has issued a red warning for extreme heat so we’re doing everything within our control to keep our buildings as comfortable as possible, including installing air cooling units and regulating temperatures in custody suites. If you’re coming to one of our buildings, follow NHS advice for coping in hot weather. If you cannot attend a hearing, contact the court or tribunal directly to make alternative arrangements. We’ll continue to monitor this guidance as the situation develops.
  • Updated: HMCTS and the City of London Corporation have now exchanged the Agreement for Lease on the new City of London Law Courts. The purpose built, 18-courtroom facility will replace the ageing Mayor’s and City of London Court and the City of London Magistrates’ Court. The new venue will include; 8 Crown court rooms, 5 county court hearing rooms, 4 magistrates’ court rooms and 1 multi-purpose room, which can be used for county or magistrates’ work. It will also focus on high level fraud work and have 2 court rooms dedicated to specialist cybercrime. Construction of the new court complex will commence shortly and is scheduled to become operational in 2026.
