Our contractors Balfour Beatty are continuing to make good progress on our A14 and M11 programme of essential works. The majority of works are being carried out as planned. The new parapet on Huntingdon Road Bridge has been completed and the temporary ‘combisafe’ edge protection has been removed from the structure slightly ahead of schedule. The final section of earthworks in this section will start shortly. We have started a new scheme on the A428 beneath Cambridge Road Bridge where we are carrying out some embankment repairs and improving the access to the bridge bearings. We will shortly be installing a matching lane closure on the eastbound side to do the work there. The A14 J31 – 34 central reservation barrier works are nearing completion. Due to some difficult ground conditions the work will now go into the first week of May. As soon as it is completed the temporary 40mph speed limit will be removed. We have been working very closely with Costain who are completing some work between junctions 31 and 32. We are combining our traffic management so that as much work as possible can be completed in each closure which minimises the impact of the work on the travelling public.
A 40 mph restriction has been put in place so we can carry out work on the central reserve barrier. This work is too extensive to carry out in a single night. And while work is being carried out the barrier won’t meet safety standards if struck by a vehicle driving at the national speed limit. To keep you safe we have therefore reduced the speed limit. We’ve put out black and yellow signs to explain this too. Current scheduleHere's the current schedule of works that Balfour Beatty are carrying out on behalf of Highways England. Remember schedules may change at short notice, for example due to bad weather. Queries? Contact Highways England on 0300 123 5000 or info@highwaysengland.co.uk. Thank you for signing up to stay informed about the A14 and M11 Essential works. We'll do our utmost to complete these works quickly, avoid disturbance and keep noise to a minimum. Once complete, the work will result in a smoother and safer A14, better bridges, and clearer directions to Addenbrookes Hospital. |
