For the first time, residents in Hertsmere will need to show photographic ID to vote at this year’s local elections – are you ready to vote?

Hertsmere Borough Council is urging residents to make sure they meet key deadlines so they can vote in May.

Residents must be registered to vote to have a say on who gets elected. The deadline to register is 11.59pm on Monday 17 April. It takes just five minutes to apply online at: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

All voters must have an accepted form of photo ID to be able to vote at a polling station. Accepted ID includes a UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Commonwealth passport; a UK, EEA or Commonwealth drivers’ licence photocard; and some concessionary travel passes, such as an older person’s bus pass or an Oyster 60+ card. Voters can use expired ID if they are still recognisable from the photo.

Residents without valid ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Tuesday 25 April.

Voting by post

If you are registered for a postal vote you will be sent your ballot paper approximately two weeks before the election and you will need to post it back to us.

To vote by post you need to apply, with forms completed and returned to Hertsmere Borough Council by 5pm on Tuesday 18 April. For more information or to apply for a postal vote, please visit: www.hertsmere.gov.uk/waystovote
