The Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is a strategic body made up of local organisations that work together to make the borough a safer place to live, work and visit. The organisations making up the CSP include Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, National Probation Service and the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board.
This edition of the Hertsmere CSP newsletter provides an update on the Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership Plan 2023 - 2027, a CCTV good news story and community events.

Representatives from the Hertsmere CSP participated in an interactive workshop in December 2022 (as pictured to the left), reviewing the aims and priorities in the current Community Safety Plan and planning for the next four years. This was followed by the launch of the Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership Plan 2023 - 2027 survey, inviting those who live, work or visit the borough to have their say on community safety aims and priorities. Over 300 people responded and 95% agreed that we should be focussing on creating safer environments by tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, to protect and safeguard vulnerable people and build community confidence and wellbeing to increase feelings of safety. As well as agreeing to the priorities set out in the plan, respondents also put forward suggestions on what they wanted the partnership to consider. Where appropriate these will be incorporated into the action plan.

Thanks to the swift action of Hertfordshire CCTV Partnership operators, a 45-year-old man was arrested for vehicle crime offences, which occurred in Borehamwood, last year in December. CCTV operators spotted a man wearing a balaclava, trying door handles and gaining access to two vehicles on Torworth Road. They alerted the police immediately who attended and arrested a man. He later appeared at Stevenage Magistrates' Court in January, where he pleaded guilty to the offences and was ordered to pay fines, victim surcharges and costs totalling £869 for all three offences. |

Thirty people attended a mini-OPALS event at St Michael's and All Angels Church in Borehamwood in February 2023. Attendees were able to enjoy fish and chips for lunch, followed by presentations from Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Trading Standards.
OPALS returned to Potters Bar in March 2023, with 40 people gathering at the Wyllyotts Theatre (as pictured above). Ten organisations were in attendance and there were information tables for attendees to speak with agencies and collect freebies. Some attendees shared in their feedback that as a result of attending the event, they would "be more aware and diligent about scam calls", complete morning exercises and socialise. Attendees at both the November and March events received a free lunch, along with being given a Warm in Winter gift bag from Small Acts of Kindness and a Safer Streets folder.
