The Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is a strategic body made up of local organisations that work together to make the borough a safer place to live, work and visit. The organisations making up the Community Safety Partnership include: Clarion Housing Group, Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Probation Service and the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board.

This edition of the Hertsmere CSP newsletter summarises activities that took place over the course of summer, as well as the Welwyn Hatfield, St Albans and Hertsmere Domestic Abuse Conference.

The Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership (CSP) supported Antisocial Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week 2022, which ran from 18 – 22 July 2022. The week was organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, with the aim of encouraging communities to take a stand against ASB and highlighting the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.

Hertsmere Borough Council took the opportunity to promote examples of the work that has been done to make the borough safer, including the installation of new CCTV cameras in Borehamwood and the Choices and Consequences event for students, parents and professionals. During this week, we also took the opportunity to highlight some of the ways people can take action against anti-social behaviour, including using the Community Trigger and promoting methods of reporting. The Community Safety Team also attended events in the community, including the Justice Bus event (as pictured above), which was organised by the University of Hertfordshire at the Borehamwood Foodbank on Thursday 21 July, and the Police engagement event in Bushey on Friday 22 July.

Further dates have been secured for the return of the Justice Bus including Thursday 20 October and 17 November 2022 from 10am - 12.30pm at the Borehamwood Foodbank. Appointments can be made by calling 01707 284115 or emailing probono@herts.ac.uk.

During the month of August, Sporting Inspirations ran a summer club at McDonald's in Borehamwood, on behalf of the council, to address ASB incidents. This ran across three Wednesday afternoons and was a free drop-in session, which young people aged 11–14 could attend. Some of the activities on offer included table tennis, Jenga and table football.

Lots of progress has been made in upgrading CCTV cameras in the borough, with the most recent upgrade being the existing cameras along Shenley Road and Manor Way, which was completed in July 2022. Furthermore, three new rapid deployment cameras have been installed to cover fly tipping issues in the area. Plans are now being discussed to upgrade the remaining existing cameras in Hertsmere, including those in the Bushey Rose Gardens and The Point.

The Welwyn Hatfield, St Albans and Hertsmere Domestic Abuse Forum hosted a virtual Domestic Abuse Conference on Wednesday 28 September 2022, which was open to professionals and members of the voluntary sector. The day included talks from several speakers, including: the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s Office, White Ribbon, The Change Project and others, focusing on the Domestic Abuse Act and implementing it in Hertfordshire, housing, reforming the Family Justice System and working with perpetrators. There was also a short film 'If a man lived like a woman for a day' to highlight gender inequalities and issues.
