Almost 300 professionals, year 6 students and parents took part in the Choices and Consequences Event, which was held over three days from Monday 16 May to Wednesday 18 May 2022 at Summerswood Primary School, Borehamwood. The event began with the professional's day and attendees were able to hear from Dimitri Jordan and Alison Cope, on issues surrounding serious youth violence. Additionally, Nicole Theron from the No More Service spoke on the signs of child criminal exploitation and the support available through the No More Service.
Year 6 students from Summerswood Primary School, St Teresa's Catholic Primary School and Meryfield Community Primary School took part in various sessions covering knife crime, gangs, grooming and coercion alongside advice on emotional wellbeing and coping strategies on both Tuesday 17 May and Wednesday 18 May. The sessions were delivered by a number of organisations including Football Chance Foundation, Herts MIND, Herts Young Homeless, Beacon and Hertfordshire Constabulary - CYP Gangs and Schools and Cyber Prevent.
The event concluded on Wednesday evening with a parent's evening providing advice on how to spot the signs of children being involved in anti-social behaviour, crime, exploitation and gang activity, which were delivered by Hertfordshire Constabulary CYP Gangs and Schools and the No More Service.
Feedback from the three day even has been overwhelmingly positive and plans are already being made for a similar event next year.
