A planning application for a new ‘Super Zeppelin Tower’, which will provide the focal point for a new play area in Potters Bar, has been granted.
Improvements are due to start in October at the junior play area within Oakmere Park, which has been awarded a Green Flag Award for 17 times.
The work to the junior play area will create a more interesting play space that will draw on the park’s heritage, with the history of the 1916 shooting down of the Super Zeppelin included in the design.
A ‘Super Zeppelin Tower Slide’, which stands at over six meters tall, will form the focal point for the new play area. With its strong yellow hue, spinning finial propeller and interactive cog panels it aims to represent elements of an airship.
In addition, a challenging new high pyramid net climber will be installed to encourage children aged five years old and over to explore whilst developing their co-ordination and strength. There will also be a new roll runner, the first in the borough, a double zip wire, swings and additional climbing apparatus installed.
Work is due to start on Monday 7 October with expected completion the first week on November.
