Seven parks in Hertsmere are among the best in the UK – and that’s official!
Today’s announcement (Tuesday 16 July) confirms that Hertsmere has retained all seven Green Flag Awards this year and an outstanding green space.
This makes our parks among a record-breaking 1,970 UK parks and green spaces to receive the prestigious award – the mark of a quality park or open space.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Our park with the longest running award history is King George Recreation Ground in Bushey, which has held the prestigious accolade for an impressive 21 years. Not far behind is Oakmere Park in Potters Bar which has received the annual award 17 times, Aberford Park in Borehamwood has held a Green Flag for 12 years, Parkfield in Potters Bar has been awarded 11 times and Mary Forsdyke Garden and Warren Lake, located in the heart of Bushey Heath, has retained the prestigious award for the second year.
Fishers Field Nature Reserve in Bushey received a special Green Flag Community Award for the eleventh time in recognition of work carried out by local volunteers who manage the site in partnership with the council. Elsewhere in Bushey, Bushey Rose Garden received Green Heritage Site accreditation because of its historic features and standard of conservation, for the ninth year in a row.
