Chance for Hertsmere children to take part in parkrun

A mother and child run through a park while participating in a parkrun. A new junior parkrun is being launched.

Youngsters in the Hertsmere borough will be able to take their first steps towards a healthy and active lifestyle by participating in a newly-launched parkrun aimed at children aged between four and 14.

The new free, fun junior parkrun will launch at King George Recreation Ground in Bushey on Sunday 16 September at 9am and the 2km distance has been set to make it easier for youngsters who might find the longer 5km distance of the adult run too demanding.

Children will be able to experience the thrill of running by themselves with no adults. They can be accompanied by a parent or guardian, but can only cross the line by themselves.

Junior parkruns are open and inclusive, free and easy to join and take place in a safe and secure environment overseen by experienced DBS-checked volunteers.

Children can choose to run or walk the event or volunteer to help those taking part.

The junior parkrun relies on volunteers from the local community who organise and run the weekly events.

If you can spare some time, please contact the King George junior parkrun team on kinggeorge-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com.

New runners should register and obtain a membership barcode. Once they have the barcode they can get free entry to any parkrun anywhere in the UK.
