A river running through the heart of Borehamwood has been enhanced to improve the area for visitors and wildlife.
The improvement works for Tykes Water, which runs through Aberford Park, Leeming Park, Brook Meadow and Haggerston Park, have been completed in time for spring.
The work to Tykes Water has improved the natural habitat for both wildlife and wildfowl, as well as enhancing the area for visitors to the parks.
The work has included: • Reed reduction through Tykes Water, which has improved access for wildfowl. • Removal of litter and flytip within the lake from previously inaccessible areas. • Embankments and bridges cleared of selected self sett trees for the benefit of mature trees and for bank stability. • Concrete features, such as outlets, cleared of invasive vegetation to prevent cracking / structural damage. • Reduction of shrubbery to improve views and open up the area, making the area more welcoming for visitors. • Extensive tree management adjacent to the lake, including removal of deadwood / unstable trees and opening up light to the lake to improve water quality.
