Recycle all your food waste

Recycle your food waste

Over a third of food waste ends up in the black bins across Hertfordshire, even though it can all be recycled in the green bin.

Hertsmere Borough Council is supporting Waste Aware’s campaign to encourage residents to recycle all their food waste.

Not only will you be helping to save Hertfordshire £2.5 million a year if all food waste was recycled and produce compost for local farmers, you’ll also be reducing harmful greenhouse gases . A good result for everyone!

By pledging to recycle all your food waste, Waste Aware will send you a free roll of Hertsmere caddy liners.

In Hertsmere we have kitchen caddies, which you can keep in your kitchen to store food waste before transferring the contents to your green bin. Caddies are available, free of charge, at locations across the borough. You can recycle any cooked or uncooked food, as well as egg shells, bones and tea bags.

Hertsmere kitchen caddies can be picked up, free of charge, from:

  •  Aldenham Parish Council, The Radlett Centre, Aldenham Avenue, Radlett
  • Hertsmere Borough Council's Area Office, The Bushey Centre, High Street, Bushey (9.30am to 2pm on Tuesdays)
  • Hertsmere Borough Council's Area Office, The Wyllyotts Centre, Darkes Lane, Potters Bar (9.30am to 2pm on Thursday)
  • Hertsmere Borough Council's Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood
  • Library and Community Centre, 96 Shenley Road, Borehamwood

You can keep up to date with the Waste Aware campaign on their Facebook page - www.facebook.com/WasteAwarePartnership - and we’ll be sharing their posts as the campaign goes on. They will be running competitions for you to get involved in and giving top tips to help you recycle correctly. And don’t forget to pop by and see them at Herts County Show on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May!
