
Over a third
of food waste ends up in the black bins across Hertfordshire, even though it
can all be recycled in the green bin.
Hertsmere Borough Council is supporting Waste Aware’s campaign to encourage
residents to recycle all their food waste.
Not only will you be helping to save Hertfordshire £2.5 million a year if
all food waste was recycled and produce compost for local farmers, you’ll
also be reducing harmful greenhouse gases . A good result for everyone!
By pledging to recycle all your food waste, Waste Aware will send you a free
roll of Hertsmere caddy liners.
In Hertsmere we have kitchen caddies, which you can keep in your kitchen to
store food waste before transferring the contents to your green
bin. Caddies are available, free of charge, at locations across the
borough. You can recycle any cooked or uncooked food, as well as egg shells,
bones and tea bags.

Our compostable bags with the Hertsmere logo are the only bags we
accept in the green bin. Plastic bags and other liners such as supermarket
biodegradable or compostable bags cannot be accepted - they will be considered
as contamination and your bin will not be emptied.
