Fire Safety when you are on the move!

Housing associations, developers and estate agents came together at Borehamwood Fire Station on Tuesday (8 March) to find out more about a new pilot scheme being run by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue.

In attendance were major housing providers Affinity Sutton and Aldwyck Housing and developers Linden Homes, along with 12 local estate agents.

The 'Move Safely' scheme, part funded by the council's Community Safety Partnership, will see upcoming developments of new homes in the area installed with a smoke detector. It follows new fire safety legislation requiring landlords of private rented accommodation to provide smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to each of their properties.

Move Safely launch

There are significantly increased risks from fire in the first 24-48 hours of moving into a new property, whilst still in unfamiliar surroundings. This scheme aims to help minimise the risk and ensure homes are protected from day one.

New tenants will receive a safety pack from their landlord containing a key ring, an easy to follow checklist and a Home Safety Check request form.

The scheme has already seen success in neighbouring boroughs, including St Albans.
