Hertsmere honours Tunisia attack victims

Friday 3 July

Minute silence

The Mayor of Hertsmere led a poignant flag-raising ceremony outside the Civic Offices in Borehamwood this morning, as part of a nationwide minute of silence in honour of the Tunisia attack victims.

The Mayor, Councillor Martin Worster, was joined by council staff, councillors, religious representatives and pupils from St Teresa's Catholic Primary School at the ceremony. Across the United Kingdom, similar ceremonies were taking place in a universal show of support.

Special tribute was paid to two victims from Bushey, Chris Dyer, who died in the attack and his wife Gina Van Dort, who has been seriously injured.

Cllr Worster commented: "I feel privileged to lead Hertsmere's ceremony to show our condolences to the innocent victims of the barbarity witnessed in Tunisia.

"This atrocity has been on all our minds as it will be for the weeks, months and years ahead. It is only right and proper that we demonstrate our respect."

Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, Cllr Morris Bright, added: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved in the attack, especially those in our communities touched by this tragedy."
