Welcome to the April edition of our Recycling Newsletter. Each month we will provide you with hints and tips on how to waste less, and recycle right.

We hope you had a lovely Easter! Here’s how to dispose of common Easter items the right way:
- Cardboard boxes and packaging can go straight into your household recycling bin.
- Foil can’t currently be recycled, so please put it in your general waste bin.
- Soft plastics aren’t recyclable through kerbside collections — pop these in your general waste bin.
- Reuse your Easter decorations next year to reduce waste!
- Cut flowers can go in your compost bin or garden waste bin. No access to either? Dispose of them in your general waste bin.

Heading outdoors to enjoy the spring sunshine? 🌳☀️
Remember to take your rubbish home, protect our parks and countryside, and leave only footprints!

🚫 Did you know these are examples of fly-tipping? 🚫
- Leaving items by a street bin
- Leaving items outside a charity shop
- Leaving items by a recycling bank
- Leaving items out to be taken for free.
Your waste is your responsibility! Make sure it's disposed of correctly.

Here are a few simple ways to reduce waste, recycle right, and make a positive impact. Why not see what you can add to your routine:
♻️ Swap to reusables – Try a reusable water bottle, coffee cup, or tote bag instead of single‑use items.
♻️ Recycle from every room – Don’t forget plastic toiletry bottles, cleaning product bottles, and other recyclables from around the home.
♻️ Plan your meals – A weekly meal plan can help cut food waste and save money.

It will take you 30 seconds to drop a used vape at a recycling point.
When vapes get crushed in general waste or mixed recycling, the batteries can spark. That spark becomes a fire. Sometimes in the truck. Sometimes at the depot.

We’re making it easier than ever to recycle your plastics. Our plastic recycling bins are available at key locations across the borough — and they are emptied weekly!
Where you can recycle: • Hollybank Rec Car Park, Emsworth • Leisure Centre, Havant • Elm Grove Car Park, Hayling Island • Tidworth Road Car Park, Leigh Park • Asda Car Park, Waterlooville

To support residents, a second plastic recycling bin has now been installed at Hollybank Rec, Elm Grove and the latest Asda Waterlooville site. This increased capacity should help reduce overflowing and maintain a cleaner recycling area.
We are also working with Biffa to secure the bins with locking mechanisms to help prevent contamination and misuse. A second bin has also been ordered for the Leisure Centre.
Please remember: • Only use clear plastic bags — no black or coloured bags. • Don’t leave bags or loose items on the ground. Help keep sites clean for everyone!
We’re working with Biffa to add locking mechanisms to reduce contamination and keep collections running smoothly.
Thank you for helping us keep our borough clean and recycling well!

Weekly food waste collections will start in areas within the Borough of Havant from 20 April 2026, enabling you to boost the amount you recycle. This major change will help residents recycle more, reduce what goes to incineration, and turn leftovers into something genuinely useful.
The service will be introduced in phases, starting with a pilot area within the borough before rolling out to all households later in the year.
