Welcome to the September edition of our Recycling Newsletter. Each month we will provide you with hints and tips on how to waste less, and recycle right. |

Plastic recycling bins are in place across the borough to support and encourage continued plastic recycling. Plastic pots, tubs and trays can now be taken to one of five sites to be recycled.
It is encouraging to see how well used these plastic recycling bins are across the borough. With usage steadily increasing, we have been closely monitoring how often the bins are used and how frequently they need to be emptied to ensure the service keeps up with demand.
|
In response to this growth, we are changing the collection frequency from fortnightly to weekly. This will take effect from 1 October, helping residents continue to recycle their plastics conveniently and effectively.

It's the start of Second Hand September – a campaign by Oxfam that encourages us to donate, re-use, re-wear, and re-style our clothes instead of buying new.
But it’s not just about fashion! From furniture to toys, choosing second-hand is a smart and sustainable way to reduce waste and give pre-loved items a new life.
Why not take the challenge this September and make second-hand your first choice?

🚫 Cotton pads aren’t recyclable — please keep them out of your recycling bin!
They belong in your general waste 🗑️
💡 Want a low-waste alternative? Try reusable cotton rounds or washable makeup remover pads — better for the planet and your wallet!

Wondering if you can recycle your online order packaging? Here’s how to dispose of it the right way in Hampshire:
✅ Cardboard boxes – flatten them, remove any labels, tape, or staples, and break down larger pieces before placing them in your household recycling bin. 🚫 Labels, tape, and staples – these go in your general rubbish bin. 🚫 Plastic pouches or bags – unfortunately, these can’t be recycled in Hampshire yet, so pop them in your rubbish bin. ♻️ Reuse when you can – boxes and packaging materials are perfect for storage, gifting, or future parcels!

Choosing fruits and veggies that are naturally in season means you're getting them at their absolute best. Here’s why it’s a smart (and tasty!) choice:
✅ Fresher & tastier – picked at peak ripeness ✅ More nutritious – packed with vitamins and minerals ✅ Supports local farmers – strengthens your local economy ✅ Eco-friendly – less transport = lower carbon footprint ✅ Budget-friendly – in-season abundance often means lower prices
