 Launching: Quarterly Green Business Newsletter
As the council, we have declared a climate emergency and have set aims for net-zero emissions by 2050. In doing so, we also want to support the efforts of others across the borough as they work to become net-zero.
To support the transition to be a greener economy, we are excited to launch a quarterly Green Business Newsletter to promote sustainable business practices, workforce training and funding opportunities to help businesses move forward with their journeys to sustainability.
The first newsletter will be launched on Friday, 20th June.
Leigh Park Vacant Shop Scheme Round 2 Now Open
Following the success of Round 1, supporting Viking Prints and The Recovery Hub to open for business, Havant Borough Council is excited to launch Round 2 of the Leigh Park Vacant Shop Scheme. We are working with businesses and organisations to transform empty shops in the Greywell Shopping Centre and Park Parade in Leigh Park, to create long-term solutions and encourage a wider offer to the community of Leigh Park.
Eligible projects could receive a grant ranging from £1,000 to £50,000, depending on the size of the property, to spend on capital works to bring empty shop units back into use.
The proposed projects are required to be in the Leigh Park Vacant Shop Scheme Zone and can be from either start-up businesses or existing businesses.
We want to encourage new uses and create a vibrant and animated atmosphere, including a wider mix of shops and facilities in the centre of our communities.
We have £130,000 of funding allocated to the Leigh Park Vacant Shop Scheme and are making an open call to businesses and organisations looking to secure funding for their customer facing businesses to assist with capital set-up costs.
Proposals from retail, food and beverage, leisure, hospitality, arts and culture as well as professional services including health providers are being encouraged.
Expressions of interest can be submitted at any time up to midnight on 30 September 2025.

Building a Better Future – Have your say …
Would you like to help us shape the future of Havant borough? Do you have ideas or concerns about our environment, housing or town centres?
Whether you live, work or visit the borough of Havant, now is your chance to view and comment on the Draft Building a Better Future Plan.
This Plan – otherwise known as the Local Plan - sets out how the council will decide, manage and shape development in our borough and includes proposed sites for allocation where development could take place, including which sites are allocated for employment space.
This consultation is live until Tuesday 1 July 2025.
As a business based within the borough, we would welcome your feedback on what the Local Plan proposes. Your perspective on how the Local Plan approaches the economy, employment, regeneration and infrastructure would be highly valuable in shaping and influencing the final Plan.
To view the Draft Building a Better Future document and to submit your views go to www.havant.gov.uk/localplan.
We are also consulting on the Waterlooville Town Centre Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) – a framework for the regeneration of the town centre - and St. Faith’s Conservation Area Review at the same time via the same online links.
Alternatively, you can collect paper copies at your local community centre or library and return for free.
We’re also running the following exhibition events where you can learn more and ask questions:
- Thursday 12 June 2025 – The Spring, Havant, 10am to 2pm
- Thursday 19 June 2025 – Public Service Plaza, Havant, 10am to 4pm
- Saturday 21 June 2025 – St. George’s Church Hall, Waterlooville, 10am to 4pm
For more information and to sign up for future updates on the Local Plan, go to: www.havant.gov.uk/localplan.
