Make the most of the extra day this year by recycling more and reducing waste!
Think about the three R's: reduce, re-use, and recycle.
Here are some ideas to help you incorporate the three R's into your daily life:
|
|
 1. Try to avoid buying items that are heavily packaged - opt for eco-friendly packaging when possible.
2. Reduce food waste - plan your weekly meals, write a shopping list, pay attention to the best-before and use-by dates.
3. Cancel unwanted newspaper/magazine subscriptions and paper bills - most things can be viewed online instead.
|
 1. Use reusable containers, bottles, shopping bags, etc.
2. Re-use wrapping paper and gift bags.
3. Buy items that will have a longer life than disposable items, e.g. rechargeable batteries, metal cutlery instead of disposable cutlery.
|
 1. Recycling saves energy, reduces costs, and helps to protect the environment!
2. You can put a lot of recycling items in your green top black bins which are collected fortnightly.

Learn how to recycle right - follow our top recycling tips:
1. Make sure that paper and cardboard is dry before it goes in your recycling bin. Moisture weakens the paper fibres and can unfortunately make it unsuitable for recycling.
2. Never put your recycling into a plastic bag or bin liner before it goes in the recycling bin. Plastic bags and bin liners are unwanted for recycling and can cause problems for the recycling sorting machinery. Make sure items go in clean and separate from each other, as this gives them the best chance of being correctly sorted.
3. All plastic bottles can go in the recycling regardless of their colour or what they contained. Please just make sure they are empty and clean.
|
|
 4. The only metal items that can be recycled are cans. tins and aerosols, which should be empty and clean. Metal items that are larger shouldn't go in your recycling bin as they cannot be processed by the machinery at our materials recovery facility. Please take large metal items to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre instead, where they can be recycled.
