In June 2023, Horizon partnered with Havant Borough Council to open its first Wellbeing Hub in based in Meridian Shopping Centre. The Wellbeing Hub is an open-door space that can gently introduce people to improving health through supportive programmes, specific classes, and connections to GP surgeries and social prescribers. This includes weight management schemes, Falls Prevention classes and a Health Referral scheme to support those living with health conditions to be active. There are also sessions to support low-income families to access a range of discounts across services to support accessibility. For the last two summers Horizon have offered free swimming to children to encourage more than 13,000 children to access the pools without cost as a barrier.

Improvement of physical and mental health can align with improved performance in the workplace. What comes next?
Recognising that approximately one third of the Borough is considered physically inactive, Horizon strives to get more people, more active more often. They recognise the burden and cost that poor health places upon the NHS, and by encouraging healthier and more active lifestyles, there is an opportunity to reduce a range of chronic health conditions from occurring.
Children and Young People
One of Horizon’s key priorities is to encourage more young people to stay active. Over 3,200 children across the Borough are learning to swim at a Horizon swimming pool, and there are plans to increase this number further. As a town close to the shoreline, It is critical that as many children as possible across the Borough learn this valuable life skill.
Horizon is also launching a new programme, THRIVE, aimed at children up to 16 and encouraging exercise and wellbeing for a younger age group. This programme will aim to increase participation by supporting accessibility for families through timetables where the parent and child can exercise together. With close to 1m visits across the centres each year, Horizon continues to connect with local people in the Borough encouraging happier healthier lifestyles.
Horizon continue to work on innovative ways to support all communities across Havant Borough. To find more information on their range of services visit the link below.
