Businesses can now apply for a new coronavirus support grant

Businesses in Havant borough with fewer than 50 employees who haven’t been eligible for other coronavirus grants can now apply for one to support their property overheads during the pandemic.

Businesses within shared offices and other flexible workspaces are being prioritised under the scheme with applications open until 6pm on Thursday 11 June.

The Local Authority Discretionary Grant Fund for Havant is a total of £860,250 from central government, which will provide grants on a scale from £1,500 to £10,000 based on evidenced overhead costs.

Once all applications are received, a panel of councillors will decide how the grants are allocated based on detailed criteria.

Councillor Michael Wilson, Leader of Havant Borough Council said:

“Although some restrictions are beginning to be lifted, this is still a very difficult time for local businesses.

“We have helped 1,148 businesses with the small business or retail, hospitality and leisure grants (a total value of £13,790,000) [26 May 2020] but not every business that applied qualified for these grants.

“We will use the Local Authority Discretionary Grant Scheme to help as many Havant small businesses as possible to survive the coronavirus outbreak and be ready to thrive when it is over.

“We are prioritising small businesses in shared offices or other flexible workspaces as they are most likely to need our help at this time.

“Unfortunately, there is finite funding from central government, so we won't be able to help all of the businesses that apply.

“I encourage any businesses that meet the criteria to get their application in as soon as possible. Support is available for businesses that need additional help before submitting an application.”
