Veterans Work Survey

DRM have been collaborating with the Veterans Work group (comprised of Deloitte, Forces in Mind Trust and The Officers’ Association) on the latest Veterans Work project. This follows on from the initial Veterans Work report in November 2016 and the short films last November.
This latest report focuses on data, looks at the correlation between where there are significant concentrations of employers actively seeking employees in the UK and where most of our veterans are living. Through conducting aveteran survey it will also investigate what aspirations for work are, salary expectations and key factors when deciding on a job after leaving the military.
The intention is that the resulting report will help UK businesses with their future veteran recruitment strategies and at the same time, act as a useful tool for those veterans who have transitioned, benchmark salary expectations and geographic areas of high employment opportunities. They are aiming to publish our report at the end of November along with an interactive dashboard tool or app.

 
The Veterans Work team would love to get as many veterans as possible completing the survey. As ERS Award members we would be very grateful if you can advertise the survey to your network of veterans. Completing the survey should take no more than 10 minutes of their time.

Make Hay While The Sun Shines!

September was a busy month for Volunteers from Pfizer, a large pharmaceutical company based in
Havant. They gave up their time to help two worthwhile causes around the Havant area as part of
Community First’s Employee Volunteering Scheme.
The first was a day’s volunteering at Staunton Country Park. It is important to keep the paths and
walkways clear for walkers and the park vehicles to access. The team of 11 Pfizer volunteers worked
hard clearing and cutting back the paths for us all to enjoy.
Liza Smith from Staunton Country Park was thrilled with the work saying, “This is the first time we have
worked with business volunteers and I’m delighted they have given up their time. The difference they
have made is tremendous, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this today without them, and we
can’t thank them enough.” James a volunteer from Pfizer found the day really rewarding “I’ve really
enjoyed today and I will definitely be volunteering again. The progress we have made has been clear to
see and there has been great team spirit among us.”
The second day involved a trip to Blendworth to visit Park Community School’s smallholding. Park
Community School leases a piece of farmland on which they have created a smallholding. Students are
taught to grow vegetables and to look after and rear animals. The produce from the farm is used in the
school kitchen. This helps to promote healthy eating and allows students to make the connection
between what they eat and where and how it is grown. Always grateful for support, the school were
delighted to accept help from a group of volunteers from Pfizer. The group of six helped with a number
of jobs around the smallholding including looking after the pigs, weeding the allotment and clearing
several raised beds used for growing fruit and vegetables.
Amy from Pfizer said, “I’ve enjoyed volunteering today. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to get out and
experience how great this place is, I would never have known this amazing place ever existed
otherwise.” Nigel Pritchard facilities manager at Park Community School expressed his gratitude, “I
would like to thank the volunteers from Pfizer, and Pfizer themselves to release the volunteers for us.
They made a huge difference by being able to spend time on specific tasks, which makes the
environment more sustainable for our students. Financial donations are fantastic however having a
volunteer body has a large impact on our students and the school’s facilities to deliver the school’s
motto of ‘much more than just a school’.”
