Southern Water update
At the Full Council meeting on 19 July, Cllr Paul Barnett, leader of the council, read out a letter he was sending to Southern Water seeking a far more co-operative and open approach to the issues Southern Water are dealing with in Hastings.
We have agreed with Southern Water to share important and relevant information with residents through this newsletter on a regular basis, to help make sure that you are kept up-to-date with work they are doing and other updates. We are reliant on Southern Water sharing relevant data with us and will continue to press them for timely updates.
The latest update is below:
Drop in and have a chat with Southern Water
Southern Water is hosting a drop-in day, ‘Your Water Matters’, on Thursday 12 October, 11am to 7pm, at Stade Hall, Rock-a-Nore Road, Hastings, TN34 3DW.
You can chat to the team, ask questions, find out all about financial support on offer if you’re struggling with bill payments, and what’s being done to prevent blockages and pollutions, investigations into misconnections since 2019 and the work taking place to resolve the recurring bursts with the main sewer.
New Head of Housing to help tackle Hastings' housing crisis
Hastings Borough Council has appointed a new Head of Housing who will be working across the town to tackle the housing crisis.
Chris Hancock started at HBC last week, moving from his role as Services Development Director for Crisis, the national charity for people facing homelessness.
Chris has also worked with the National Homelessness Practitioner Support Service funded by Department for Communities and Local Government (as it was) providing support to local authorities in the east, south east and London. Before that he worked for other local authorities in their housing departments.
September is preparedness month
Today marks the start of Preparedness Month. We and other emergency service colleagues will be sharing messages through this newsletter and on social media about how you can be prepared for emergencies. Each day during September there will be a different focus, covering topics including safety and security, flood awareness, NHS health campaigns, and home preparedness.
You can find out more on the 30 Days 30 Ways website, including taking part in daily quizzes and watching weekly discussions over the month.
