Honouring lives lost at Hiroshima and Nagasaki
On 6 August 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, on 9 August, another nuclear bomb was released on the Japanese city of Nagasaki.
The overall death toll is estimated at 140,000 in Hiroshima and at least 74,000 people in Nagasaki.
Sunday will be the 78th anniversary, we remember all the lives lost in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
Stay safe at the coast
 If you’re going to the beach this summer, remember:
- choose a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags;
- check the weather and tide times before you go;
- if you get caught in a rip current, don’t swim against it – instead, relax and float until you are free from the rip, then swim to safety;
- if you find yourself in danger in the water, relax and float;
- if you see someone else in trouble at the coast, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
You can find more advice and safety tips on the RNLI website.

Does your child have a Child Trust Fund?
 A recent report suggested that almost a million young people could have money in Child Trust Fund accounts that they do not know how to claim. If you have a child who was born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011 they would have been eligible for a government payment into the account.
Many of the accounts have now matured and have an estimated value of £1,900 each.
If you think your child had an account but you can't remember the details, HMRC can help find the original provider for you.
