Making Hackney Work For You! Conference - 9 May

Making Hackney Work for You

Hackney Council and the Skills, Economy and Growth Scrutiny Commission are hosting an engagement event for all businesses in the borough.

Over the past decade, we have witnessed significant levels of growth and change in Hackney. From London’s Tech City to the Olympic Park - Hackney has attracted many new businesses and as a result, new job opportunities.

The commission is tasked with reviewing how the Council can develop its inclusive economy strategy to help ensure that the benefits of economic prosperity and growth are shared with Hackney residents and businesses.

Trading Standards, Environmental Health, Procurement, Business Rates and many other Council departments will also be on site offering information and advice on services that can benefit your business.

Sign up for the conference on the 9 May and have your say in the future of the borough.

Foster Care Fortnight: 13 - 26 May

Hackney’s foster carers do an amazing job of opening their homes and lives to children and young people that are unable to be with their birth parents, due to abuse, neglect, sickness and sometimes bereavement.

This Foster Care Fortnight, we want the borough to show our foster carers that we appreciate the work they do, to raise awareness of fostering and get more people fostering for Hackney.

How you can help:

Social media

Share posts throughout Foster Care Fortnight

Over the two weeks, we will be sharing fostering accounts by some of Hackney’s foster carers. Help us raise awareness by liking and sharing these stories on your own social media accounts.

Help us say thank you!

We are also asking businesses and organisations across the borough to show their support by displaying a poster or two during the fortnight. These will be part of the wider adverts and posters featured across the borough in May.

If your business would like to take part please email for an information pack.

Cuture Seeds

Culture Seeds

Culture Seeds is part of the Mayor of London’s draft Strategy for Culture, Culture for all Londoners.

The new grants will be used to support community-led cultural projects in every London borough.

Culture Seeds will support small or informal organisations and groups as well as individuals as it is often harder for them to access funding.

The Mayor wants to see more local arts and culture activities created and put on by local people in London. That’s why Culture Seeds is aimed firmly at grassroots organisations.

The grants are for funding arts, culture and heritage projects and activities. READ MORE

London Living Wage

The London Living Wage is an hourly rate of pay, currently set at £10.55. It is calculated independently to reflect the high cost of living in the capital, giving a worker in London and their family enough to afford the essentials and to save.

How can it benefit your business?

It makes sense - businesses who pay the Living Wage:

  • see reduced absenteeism and sick leave
  • find it easier to recruit and retain staff
  • see a huge boost to staff morale and productivity
  • see improved brand awareness

Join more than 1,500 employers who now pay the London Living Wage.
