Hackney - Towards a Dementia Friendly Borough

There are currently around 1400 people living with dementia in Hackney and the majority of them will have their family and friends acting as primary carers.

Hackney Dementia Action Alliance is made up of members across all sectors: business, public, and voluntary.  It is the vehicle driving Hackney towards being a dementia -friendly community. A dementia-friendly community is one in which people with dementia are empowered to have high aspirations and feel confident, knowing they can contribute and participate in activities that are meaningful to them.

Local businesses in Hackney have a key role to play responding to the needs of people with dementia.

You could:

  • Raise awareness and understanding of dementia among your customer-facing staff to assist them in serving your customers living with dementia.
  • Ensure your environment is dementia friendly.
  • Support employees who are carers of people with dementia.

If you would like to know more about becoming a member of the Hackney Dementia Action Alliance and achieving our goal of Hackney becoming a Dementia Friendly Community, please contact Sandra Cater on 020 8533 009 or email
