We have added some additional information for schools regarding In Year applications for children who are arriving from the Ukraine. This can be found at Gloucestershire In Year Admissions. There is also FAQ’s and a process map for schools to follow for further guidance.
We would like to engage on our proposed strategies for Inclusion and SEND. Please share the draft strategies and details of our engagement activity with colleagues, partners and families you work with. This April, we’re holding webinars and asking people to complete a survey for their views before the final strategies are launched later this Summer. Additional information is available on the Bulletin Board at the above link.
The FREE Employee Assistance Programme for all schools has been extended until 31 August 2022 and offers additional wellbeing support for all school staff. Further details are available on the Bulletin Board at the above link.

Trading Standards is becoming increasingly concerned about disposable vapes and their popularity amongst school aged children and is concerned that students may be bringing them to school. It is illegal to sell or buy for a person under the age of 18 any product that contains nicotine. This includes e-cigarettes commonly known as vapes. Please see the Bulletin Board at the above link for a letter and leaflet from Trading Standards which gives further information on these products.
Governance
Headteacher Performance Management and Appraisal, 2022/23
Under the Education (School Teachers’ Appraisal) (England) Regulations 2012, governing boards in maintained schools have a statutory duty to appoint an external adviser for advice and support on the headteacher’s appraisal.
Officers from the LA’s Education, Outcomes and Intervention team are available to act as this external adviser. The External Adviser provides impartial, professional support for the process of headteacher’s appraisal, attends the meeting during which governors review progress to the previous year’s objectives and agree new objectives for the coming year, and prepares the written appraisal report.
Schools that have purchased subscription level 1 of the Gloucestershire School Improvement Offer may choose to use their ‘additional visit’ for support with headteacher performance management.
Or, the service can be purchased as a ‘stand alone’ traded service from Gccplus.
Governors who are a member of the headteachers performance management/appraisal panel are encouraged to participate in training. Governor Services are running courses at the times below and places can be booked on Gccplus. Please ask the school admin to do this.

Headteacher (and deputy headteacher) recruitment - REMINDER
A reminder to governing boards of maintained schools, if their headteacher (or deputy headteacher) resigns.
The School Staffing (England) Regulations 2009 set out that the governing board of a maintained school must notify the local authority in writing of any headteacher vacancy, and deputy headteacher vacancy if the school has one.
The Regulations go on to say the governing board must then advertise their vacancy in such a manner as it considers appropriate, and must appoint a selection panel to select and interview such applicants as it thinks fit.
Governing boards must also notify the local authority in writing of the names of the applicants selected for the post of headteacher (ie, those that are shortlisted).
If your headteacher or deputy headteacher resigns, please inform the LA by emailing governor.services@gloucestershire.gov.uk.
Governor Services and/or your school’s Performance Adviser will be able to explain what support is available to you, from considering your options, and throughout the recruitment process of your new headteacher/deputy. Information is available on Schoolsnet
